The mission at Rocklin Academy Family of schools is to provide all English Learners with effective and high quality programs and services that develop listening, speaking, reading and writing skills as quickly as possible. Students are provided both designated and integrated English Language Development (ELD) instruction that is intentional, explicit and rigorous.
If a student lists a language other than English on the home language survey, he/she is given the California English Language Development Test (CELDT). Student scores on the CELDT determine if the student is a Fluent English Proficient (FEP) student or and English Learner (EL). EL students are placed in a general education classroom with a teacher authorized to teach English Learners. In addition to the core curriculum, these students are taught specific language development skills in accordance with California’s English Language Development Standards.
District English Learner Advisory Committee (DELAC)
The District has a District English Language Advisory Committee (DELAC) made up of representatives from the school site English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC) members. This group meets and advises the district on a variety of matters relating to English Learners.
School Site English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC)
School sites that have more than 21 English learners have an English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC). This committee is made up of parents of English Learners as well as other parents, and shares responsibility for planning school programs.
ELAC and DELAC meetings, dates and notifications are posted on the district and site websites as well as through home-school communications.
