English Learners

The mission at Rocklin Academy Family of schools is to provide all English Learners with effective and high-quality programs and services that develop listening, speaking, reading and writing skills as quickly as possible. Students are provided both designated and integrated English Language Development (ELD) instruction that is intentional, explicit and rigorous.

If a student lists a language other than English on the home language survey, he/she is given the English Language Proficiency Assessment for California (ELPAC). Student scores on the ELPAC determine if the student is a Fluent English Proficient (FEP) student or an English Learner (EL). EL students are placed in a general education classroom with a teacher authorized to teach English Learners. In addition to the core curriculum, these students are taught specific language development skills in accordance with California’s English Language Development Standards.
